Banks repeatedly issue cautions not to share passwords after a man was conned out of $40,000.
Have you ever heard the saying “if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is”? Sadly, one man recently found out the truth of this statement all too well by losing $40,000 in a scam.
Unfortunately, the man fell for the scam and provided his banking details, including his username and password.
Thousands of staff at QUT had their personal data compromised in a cyber attack confirmed by the university.
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has confirmed that a cyber attack on its systems has resulted in the personal data of thousands of staff and 67 students being compromised. The university said it was alerted to the attack on August 28, and immediately launched an investigation into the incident.
Mailchimp Suffers Another Security Breach Compromising Some Customers' Information
Mailchimp, the popular email marketing platform, recently suffered another security breach that compromised some of its customers’ information. The breach was discovered on July 16th and affected a small number of Mailchimp users. The company has not yet released details about the nature of the breach or which customers were affected.
Police suspect a Canberra man who is accused of defrauding a 65-year-old woman may be part of an international criminal organization.
Police allege that a man, who has not been named, contacted the 65-year-old woman in April and told her he was from the Australian Taxation Office. He then allegedly threatened to arrest her if she did not pay him $70,000.
The woman complied with the demands and handed over the cash to a man at a Canberra shopping centre.
